BC Wildfire Service and Gitxsan partners will carry out two cultural burns near Kispiox, one at the Upper Kispiox River Recreation Site and one along the Kuldo Forest Service Road covering a total of 12 hectares.
The burns may occur between March 30 and May 13, depending on conditions, and smoke may be visible in the area.
These cultural burns aim to enhance wildlife habitat and support the growth of cultural food and medicinal plant species. The projects will also help build knowledge, experience, and capacity for cultural burning within Wilp Gwiiyeehl while strengthening collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service.
